Hey everybody! Just wanted to let you know that this morning I completed the Edinburgh Big Fun Run 5km which was the 14th race of my LauranDoes179 Challenge to raise money for the Blazeman Foundation for ALS research as part of the TeamDrea Challenge! Only one more race to go until my challenge is complete!
Technically, I didn’t need to run this race to meet my 179 mile challenge goal but some of my wonderfully generous colleagues offered to increase their donations if I ran a race dressed as a monkey (monkeys kind of scare me). I’m not one to turn down a larger donation so I found this local, friendly race, bought my monkey costume, and made my way to the start line this morning with my wonderful support crew consisting of Mike and Georgie.
The Big Fun Run Series puts on family and newbie friendly 5kms all over the country to get people excited about running and exercising. The events are fantastically laid back with no timing chips or anything like that. The Edinburgh edition of the race took place in Holyrood Park with the route taking us on a hilly but picturesque loop around Arthur’s Seat with a finish in the field next to Holyrood Palace.
It was lovely to trot round the course with lots of families, first timers, and charity runners. Everyone was really positive and trying their hearts out and really enthusiastic about running with a monkey! There were a few others in fancy dress so I wasn’t the only one sacrificing my dignity! I have no idea what my time was today but I am very proud to say I was second costume to cross the line….BEHIND A BANANA! As I was rounding the corner to the finish line, everyone was shouting ‘hey monkey there goes your banana’ and the like which was fun.
So that’s it. I finished the race today and headed over to the gym for 15 more kilometers and then came home for a lovely nap. The day’s been a goodun!
I’m running to help my wonderful, inspirational friend Andrea raise money to help get rid of ALS for good and I’d sure be grateful if you would consider a donation. In order to donate, all you have to do is visit my donate button in my header or click the link below…thank you so much!
Thanks for reading, guys! I am now 157.71 miles into my challenge with only 21.29 miles to go! My last race is the Snowdonia Marathon in Wales on the 24th of October. It’s gonna be tough….but I’m ready!
